MMA Monday Dan Henderson

Dan Henderson has earned his place in my MMA Monday slot. After knocking out Michael Bisping Saturday night at UFC 100, he has earned a special place in my heart. It takes a lot to make me really dislike someone, especially someone I don't even deal with in my own life. But Michael Bisping got under my skin like nobody else ever has. I have been eagerly waiting for Dan's chance to knock the cocky Brit out and I enjoyed every second of it. :)

Dan Henderson, known to many as Hendo, has got to be one of the best fighters in both the UFC and MMA. The man is an animal. Cool, calm and collected, he doesn't waste time playing trash talking games. He goes in and gets the job done. His experience is extensive, including titles in both the Welterweight and Middleweight division for Pride, which is no longer in operation. He proved during the last season of The Ultimate Fighter that he can be a terrific coach as well. Henderson is a machine. His sweet knockout on Bisping will have me smiling for days.

My Picks for UFC 100

UFC 100 has been a long time coming. This event is so hyped that it even has it's very own website. I'll be honest. I think that UFC 100 could have had a much better line up of fighters but hey, that's just my opinion. As it stands, many people are looking forward to this big night of fights which will be available by Pay Per View.

My personal picks are Mir, Alves and Henderson. I base all of my decisions on both the physical skills of the fighter but also their mentality. Different fighters have a different approach in that regard. Some fly in like raging bulls and others have a plan, a strategy. From what I have seen myself, I have reason to believe in my chosen fighters. Especially Dan Henderson. I care more about that fight with Bisping than any other fight on the card. Someone has got to give Bisping the beating that so many of us long to give him. I will be living vicariously through Dan that night while he kicks Bisping's rude, cocky, disrespectful ass. :)

As for my choice regarding Alves beating Georges St. Pierre, I am a Canadian girl and would love to see GSP win but I think Alves will have an advantage. He just has this strange aggression that bulldozes his opponent. We will see. For Mir and Lesnar, I think Lesnar is too big and just not experienced enough to take Mir. It will be one of those, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" scenarios.

Of course, this is just my opinion. Guess we will find out tomorrow. I don't care who wins, as long as Bisping loses.

MMA Monday - Diego Sanchez

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez has been featured here in my blog before. But after his amazing win on Saturday night at the The Ultimate Fighter Finale, he deserves to be featured again. This time Diego brought it big time, backing up his cocky attitude by unleashing the madness all over Clay Guida. Guida put up a great fight. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was tense, talented and bloody. Just the way a great UFC fight should be.

Diego is known for having some mad skill and he didn't hesitate to use it. Which of course takes me back to that fight with Joe Stevenson at UFC 95. I still think it was rigged because those guys barely hurt each other. But that's a whole different blog post. It was nice to see Diego Sanchez the way I remembered him before 95. Definitely impressive.

MMA Monday - Efrain Escudero

Efrain Escudero is relatively new to the UFC. He joined the organization after competing on season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter. He also went on to win that season which earned him a nice six figure contract. This Mexican - American is just 23 years old and for someone so new to the UFC, he already has made his mark. Both Efrain and Ryan Bader are featured characters in the new UFC 2009 Undisputed video game. A special code is required to download the characters though. It is certainly a unique career point for a young professional like Efrain Escudero.

Thoughtful

I heard something today on TV that made me stop and think. It has kind of been lurking in the back of my mind ever since. The speaker said "If I were to watch where your money goes for a week, it would show me where your heart is." It wasn't a show asking for donations or an infomercial or anything like that. It was a Canadian Christian television show, 100 Huntley Street.

Now the last thing I want to do is go down the dreaded road of religious discussion, so I'm not. The speaker was making a point about reaching out and helping others in need. And when I thought about the major things I spend money on it brought me to this. If what he said is true then my Dodge Charger, my laptop, coffee from a large coffee chain and weekly wine and spirits are where my heart is.

That really spoke to me on a personal level. It got me thinking that though we all do a little frivolous spending, I don't want my material goods to be so dominant when it does come to what I invest myself and my money in. I'd like to see other things on there, like the child sponsorship I keep meaning to do to give my own kid a look at reality or something as simple as paying $5 for a kid in Africa to attend school for a year. $5? I mean, how can I not?

This is a personal post about my own feelings. But I just wanted to share with anyone who meanders by. :)

MMA Monday - Lyoto Machida

Lyoto Machida is a name that was on every UFC fan's lips this past weekend. His highly anticipated bout with Rashad Evans at UFC 98 had people placing their bets, even Evans himself. Lyoto took the victory from Rashad and with it, his Championship belt. Machida pulled a nice KO on Evans that gave Rashad his first ever record loss.

Machida is a highly trained and skilled fighter, having grown up with a father who is a Shotokan karate master. Lyoto is easily one of the best fighters in the UFC.

“What’s going on Arys? What is it that you don’t want to tell me?” I leaned against the deck railing and fixed him with a deadly glare. “Don’t screw with me. I know you’re packing more heat than any other vampire in the city.”

For a split second he looked uneasy but a smirk banished the momentary expression. I could tell it was forced.

“Think about it Alexa. You are that heat I’m packing. You’re not safe at The Wicked Kiss. You can’t blame me for being concerned.”

“Are you really worried about her? Or are you worried about what will happen to you without her?” Shaz’ voice rang out from behind us. He had come to stand where he could look out at us through the open patio door.

I gave him a look, telling him to shut up. Why was he purposely antagonizing the vampire? He met my eyes and shrugged before looking to Arys for a response.

“You seem to forget who you’re dealing with pup. I’m not going to keep my patience with you much longer.”

“Oh, is that so? So I struck a nerve. Getting too close to the truth for you huh?” Shaz’s cocky attitude was as sexy as it was shocking. I gaped open mouthed as he practically dared Arys to take a shot at him.

“Shaz, this doesn’t concern -,” I started to say but was interrupted by Arys’ angry outburst.

“You know what kid? You don’t know shit about the truth.” His eyes darkened until they were all pupil. The energy gathering around him was thick with menace and I was stricken with fear.

Arys stared at Shaz with such hate that it soured my stomach. His finger tips were alive with the gold and blue of our shared power. If he dared to toss it Shaz’ way I was taking him down.

“Arys, don’t even think about it,” I warned. Shaz didn’t look the least bit concerned. In fact, he looked downright amused.

“Let him Lex,” he said. “If he has to use metaphysical power to best me then he’s as much a man as I thought him to be.”

The open invitation wasn’t lost on Arys. As fast as he’d gathered the energy he dropped it, causing the air to hum all around us. Stretching his hands out before him, he cracked his knuckles in a loud series of pops that made me wince.

“So you want to get physical with me pup? I’m surprised it took you this long.” Arys’ lips drew back in a snarl, flashing sharp fangs. He made a “come hither” motion with his finger, the way one might entice a lover. “Show me what you’ve got. Unless it doesn’t totally eat you up inside knowing that Alexa gets something from me that she can never find in you.”

I wanted so badly to interject but something told me to wait. My instinct was to gather the power close around me so it was ready at a moment’s notice.

“She finds more in me than I even need to tell you.” Shaz took one step forward which brought him outside the open patio door. “Because you know. You see it. And no matter what you think you have together, I’ll always have more.”

Arys was quiet as he watched my white wolf in careful contemplation. Tilting his head to one side, he smiled and said, “If you knew the things I do with her, the ways I complete her, you’d never make the mistake of being so self assured.”

My face grew hot and I stared at the deck beneath my feet. This wasn’t getting any better. Shaz was doing a great job shrugging off Arys’ jibes. I had to give him credit.

“Keep talking vampire.” Shaz managed a bored expression as he ran a hand through his hair. “We both know where we really stand. Get back to me when you can run through the forest on four legs with this girl by your side, exploring the true pleasures of the earth. Like sunshine.”

So they were trying to outdo one another by playing off each other’s weaknesses. Oh geez, I thought, just throw some punches already and get it over with. But Shaz wasn’t finished yet.
“Alexa and I are mates. I don’t care how you come into the picture or what you think you have with her. But I promise you that if a single hair on her head is harmed because of you, you will be truly good and dead.”

As my lungs began to ache, I realized I’d been holding my breath. Neither of them looked at me and I started to doubt that they’d notice if I went for that run I’d been looking forward to.
Arys shifted slightly, a motion that indicated to me that he was ready for a fight. His eyes betrayed no emotion as he stared into Shaz.

“Ah, so quick to make promises.” With a clap he rubbed his hands together as if enjoying every excruciating second of this. But he looked like the monster from every child’s nightmares when he said, “Don’t make promises you will never be able to keep.”

In a sudden, unexpected motion Shaz lost it. Whatever self restraint had been holding him back snapped and he moved faster than my eyes could follow.

The sound of his impact against Arys rang in my ears. Shaz hit him full on with all of his weight. I think Arys had been expecting a fist or maybe even some fangs because the body slam sent both of them tumbling down the deck stairs to the grass below.

The small shriek that escaped me mingled with the sound of wood splitting as they successfully trashed the railing on their way down. Shaz’ snarl cut through the night followed by the heavy thud of fists on flesh.

MMA Monday - Forrest Griffin

Forrest Griffin has ranked at the top of my favorite fighter list for a long while now. I love Forrest. He has this go get 'em attitude and big heart. He will fight anyone that is set before him. Literally.

Born in 1979, Forrest entered the UFC after appearing and kicking ass on The Ultimate Fighter. He has really built his career since then. He is the #2 Light Heavyweight in the World according to Sherdog. After winning a Championship title and coaching on the show that he got his UFC start on, it's a safe bet that Forrest is here to stay for awhile.

Forrest Griffin will be fighting Anderson Silva at the upcoming UFC 101. This is a fight that has everyone talking as they place their bets. As for me, I'm always in Forrest's corner, win or lose.

This is a short excerpt featuring a character that introduced himself to me a few years ago. I have been waiting for the right time to tell his story. Willow is an angel...a fallen angel. After becoming seduced by the compassion and love he felt for a human, everything he knew changed. And so did he.

Excerpt:

The silence descended like a thick cloud, wrapping Jayde’s body in the illusion of black velvet. She moved soundlessly, barely touching the floor as she glided toward the open window.
Looking down upon him in the dark garden, she was filled with a longing for both his body and his blood. Her fangs ached to pierce through his tender flesh, to suck his innocence into her in every way. How desperately she desired him.

Sensing the vampiress’ eyes upon him, Willow looked up to find her in the window, her silhouette taunting him. Though he knew that he should fear her, he couldn’t help the rush of blood to his loins as he looked up into her glowing eyes.

Before Jayde had even descended the spiral staircase, Willow was waiting for her there at the bottom. He held out a hand to her and she reached for it, reveling in its warmth. His scent was intoxicating, driving her to taste him.

“Why is it that I do not fear you?” Willow whispered, inhaling her strong flowery scent. “Even if you were to drain my life away here and now, I would die happy.”

He kissed her then, boldly pulling her tightly into his embrace. The sound of his pounding heart beat in her ears, driving her to claim him. Kissing her way down the smooth skin of his neck, she murmured, “My love, you truly are a fool.”

The need to fill her dominated him and Willow found himself responding to her with a heady fervor. As her cool lips and tongue traced the pulsing vein in his throat, he groaned and slid a hand down her thigh, seeking the hem of her skirt.When Willow’s hand slipped beneath the silky material, Jayde clung to him, any remaining resistance inside her quickly waning. His pulse beat against her tongue and the bloodlust rose to consume her.

His need was evident as he pressed against her, his hand playing with the lace trim of her undergarments. Pulling him down with her, Jayde lay back on the stairs and slowly slid her long skirt up to expose her thighs.

Willow kneeled before her, desire scorching him like a fire raging out of control. Running a hand up each of her silky smooth legs, he leaned in to kiss her again, slipping his tongue between her lips. The tips of her fangs grazed his tongue, sending a jolt of pleasure throughout his body.
Slowly, tauntingly, Jayde spread her legs wide enough for him to slip in between her thighs. The rough edge to his bruising kiss thrilled her, sending a flood of heat to her groin. He reached to cup her breasts and she sighed in contentment.

Licking his lower lip, she squirmed against him until she felt him grow harder. Willow was ready, throbbing against her with an ache he had never known before.Jayde was caught up in the sensations, the powerful need that he caused within her. She knew there was no stopping once they passed the point of no return.

“Willow,” she whispered, afraid to break the spell holding them in its thrall. “I can’t take much more of this. I need you now.”

Her words stirred his passion and Willow responded by sliding her flimsy thong underwear down her legs, tossing it aside. Before she could reach to free him of his clothing, he was tearing it off in haste.
When at last he was beautifully nude before her, she beckoned for him to take her. The silk of her skirt pooled around them when he moved between her thighs to claim her.

Rashad "Sugar" Evans has a madly impressive UFC record. He is the current Light Heavyweight Champion after getting his start on the 2nd season of The Ultimate Fighter. He is somewhat of a fan favorite, having proven that he can hold his own against the best fighters, including Chuck Liddell. Rashad is going to be fighting at the upcoming UFC 98. His fight with Lyoto Machida is a highly anticipated Pay Per View event. Each fighter has an outstanding record and somebody is going to be forced to take their first real loss.

MMA Monday - Matt Hughes

Matt Hughes is a 9 time Welterweight UFC champion. That is one hell of a substantial achievement. He is a twin, having a brother named Mark. Both boys grew up heavily involved in wrestling. He was also one of the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter reality show season 2 and 6. Matt Hughes will be fighting at the upcoming UFC 98, May 23rd. He will be fighting Matt Serra.

Josh Koscheck is currently my favorite UFC fighter. Is it because of his amazing blue eyes, mixed ethnic features and drool worthy body? It might be. :) But seriously, this man has amazing skill too. Even if he is a bit of a pain in the ass at times (like when hosing down sleeping people). As a romance author, I certainly benefit from the hotness of Josh.

MMA Monday - Frank Mir

Frank Mir has certainly had an interesting career in mixed martial arts. He has found substantial success in the UFC, even going so far as to recover after a serious accident left him injured. He recently coached season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter where he had his hands full with crazy fighters like Junie Browning. Overall, Frank was an ok coach but he could have done more to be positive and encouraging. Though if I had been babysitting some of the guys in his care, I would have been testy too. :)

Phillipe Nover was featured on The Ultimate Fighter 8 Team Mir vs Team Nogueira. He started out a little rough after passing out on the first day. But really, he isn't the only guy to ever to do that on this show. If anything, it made him fight harder. Nover seems to be a rather easy going guy overall, until he gets into the octagon. Then it's all out war.

New Excerpt from Lyric's Gift

In order to light a fire under my ass so that I can get back into writing after a week of moving and unpacking, I am posting a small excerpt from my newest WIP. It now has a title!

Lyric's Gift - excerpt:

Jade would never have guessed that his dear friend had just helped the very woman that he himself could not get off of his mind. The image of those perfectly ruby red lips continued to haunt him. More than once since he’d put Lyric in the taxi, he had imagined kissing those lips, running his tongue over and between them. With a sigh, he glanced down at his sleeping victim and the two puncture wounds in her throat.

He hadn’t been able to bring himself to bed this one. He often did, satisfying all urges at once. His body had refused to co-operate and he’d had to settle for feasting on the lively human blood while visions of Lyric standing at the bus stop flashed behind his eyes. God help him but the woman was absolutely divine.

Climbing from the sprawling King size bed, Jade was relieved with his choice to go to his victim’s house instead of his own. Now he could simply leave in silence and be on his way. As he pulled his clothing on, he cursed himself for such weakness. No woman had dominated his thoughts like this in years, centuries!

The dark haired woman on the bed moaned and stirred, reaching as if searching for him. His steps quickened and he fled the room with stealth and silence. The last thing Jade needed now was to explain to her why he had little desire to touch her any further. He wanted nothing more than to be out, beneath the city sky.

If the night air held a chill, Jade did not feel it. With his hunger sated, he pulled his keys from the pocket of his long leather jacket. With a beep the door to his sleek black 08 Mustang Shelby unlocked and he slid onto the leather seat with a sigh. When he turned the key and the radio blared to life, Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” made him shake his head in wonder. It had to be a coincidence. Didn’t it?

Jade’s mind replayed the moment that Lyric told him about her mother’s claim to have jammed with Jimi Hendrix. He could recall the way her full lips had lifted in a gentle but embarrassed smile. Staring at the radio, he shrugged heavily. What he wouldn’t do to see her again.

As he drove through the city streets, the song accompanied his thoughts. His existence was a lengthy series of events, many of which he would like to forget. Though Jade wasn’t one for self indulgent melancholy, he couldn’t help but think about his wife. She’d been killed by the vampire coven that Jade and Griffin had escaped alive. The guilt and the feeling that he’d failed her had been something that he carried for years before learning to let go. But he still missed her.

And now that he couldn’t get Lyric out of his head, he felt a fresh wave of guilt, as if he shouldn’t dare to care for another woman. What was he thinking? He couldn’t allow himself to feel for a human woman. That would only endanger her. She may be gifted but she wasn’t cut out for his world.

Sure, keep telling yourself that. The thought came unbidden and Jade’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. He desperately wanted to listen to his conscience. It was fear that held him back. Fear that he would destroy Lyric’s beautifully fragile life, corrupt it in ways she had yet to know. He didn’t want to tarnish the brief image of himself that he’d left her with. And how would he even begin to seek her out in a city this size if he wanted to?

Of course, she was a burlesque dancer. She had to be almost as nocturnal as he was, if only because her career demanded it. He knew enough about her with that tidbit of information alone that he may be able to find her. Would she think he was stalking her? Or would she be glad to see him again? The question tormented Jade throughout his entire drive home.

It wasn’t until he sat on the edge of his own bed, clad in only silk pajama pants, that he knew what Lyric had stirred in him that no other woman had in all this time. The desire to be needed, to be loved. Why her? He didn’t know, nor did he care. Jade only knew that undoubtedly, he had to see her again.

I totally forgot to post a sexy UFC fighter to my blog for MMA Monday. I was swamped with moving to our new place. But now I am settled in and will make a late post of a hottie I have posted before. How can I not? He is my favorite. ;)

Anyone who reads this blog on occasion probably knows how much I adore Josh Koscheck, despite his annoying antics in season one of The Ultimate Fighter. I will have an all new fighter for next Monday.

The Wicked Kiss Is Done!

I am finished! At 101291 words in length (unedited), The Wicked Kiss is finished! I am so psyched I could just dance around the kitchen. The last few chapters have been kicking my ass so it felt really nice to see it completed. Now I am taking the rest of the day off before I do my first read through and edit. Hurray! I'm hoping to have it ready for submission early May (fingers crossed).

In celebration, here is a random excerpt from The Wicked Kiss:

“Have you lost your mind?” I wanted to throttle the life out of him for such blatant stupidity.
“Back off Alexa.” Julian glared down at me from his six foot three stance. “This has nothing to do with you.”
Fury burned through me and I felt my control slip. Right then, I just wanted to kill him. “You will respect me as Alpha wolf Julian. If you want to expose yourself by being an idiot, you won’t be doing it in my town.”
He eyed me with a smugness that made me want to scream. It took all I had not to back hand the arrogance off of his face. “What are you going to do about it? Sick your vampire on me?”
He actually had the balls to openly taunt me. Big mistake. I could feel Shaz a few feet away, simmering with anger. Kylarai and Zak hovered uncertainly nearby. Everyone else had gone back to their own business now that the brawl was over.
“It isn’t him that you should be afraid of.” I smirked with a conceit that wasn’t the norm for me.
All it took was a thought to throw enough power at Julian to throw him back a few feet. I didn’t even raise a hand. He reached out quickly to catch himself on the side of a pool table.
His dark gaze was filled with hate which I took great satisfaction in. Call it what you like but I had something he didn’t and that made me the dominating force.
To say I was shocked when he got up in my face then would be a gross understatement. I was blown away. The dark haired werewolf was suddenly growling down into my face with a mouthful of bared fangs.
“If you want to fucking threaten me bitch, then you better be ready to follow through on that.” He was close enough to kiss, the intrusion into my personal space a blatant show of disrespect.
Before I could take a breath to respond Shaz was between us, shoving Julian away from me with a push that would have taken most people off their feet. He followed up with a second shove that had Zak moving to their side, as if he thought he could break them up if they decided to go at it.
The dark fury that blazed in Shaz’s eyes like jade green fire almost caused my heart to stop. I had never seen such raw hate written in his gaze as long as I’d known him. It frightened me even as it excited.
“I don’t care who you fucking think you are, I will kill you before I allow you to talk that way to Alexa. You’re a fucking nobody pal.” Shaz was poised to strike if Julian so much as blinked the wrong way.
“Guys, come on.” Kylarai’s gentle voice was chiding. She was afraid they would fight. “This is all a misunderstanding.”
Julian didn’t look at anyone but Shaz. He pulled himself to his full height before snarling through his teeth. “Just because you want to be her pathetic lapdog doesn’t mean that I do. I will take you any day Shaz. Even out back, right now.”
My heart surged with adrenaline at Julian’s venomous words. A small cry escaped me when Shaz lashed out with a blow, catching the other wolf with a fierce right hook.
“Shaz, no!” I lunged to grab his arm before he could keep swinging. The motion almost knocked me off my feet but I held him back.
“If that’s what you want then buddy, let’s make it official. It has been months since Raoul died, maybe it’s time to appoint a new Alpha male in this God forsaken town,” Julian sneered. My eyes widened when I saw where he was going with this.
Shaz studied the other Were for just moments before replying in a low voice, filled with menace. “Where and when?”

MMA Monday - Junie Browning

Junie Browning is one of those guys...though many hate him, I really dig him and that's why even though he lost his fight last week at UFC Fight Night 18, I still have his back.

He's 23 and entered the UFC after being part of The Ultimate Fighter 8. He was a bit of a pain in the ass, amusing and horrifying with his drunken antics. However, he has remained a fan favorite overall and a serious contender, despite his recent loss. He currently trains with Randy Couture's Team Xtreme Couture.

Why do I like Junie Browning? Good question. He is the kind of guy I would normally want to see get his ass kicked. Not so. Maybe it's his "fuck you" attitude, maybe it's because his platinum hair reminds me a little of someone I see in my fictional world. :) Of course, that sexy sneer he gets going on is not bad either lol. And when I saw him on top of Dave Kaplan...well a romance author's muse is always looking for inspiration.

Junie Browning lost his recent fight against Cole Miller. In my opinion that was b/c he charged in there with too much offense, not enough defense. Silly bastard. Hopefully he learns where he went wrong and the overrated Cole Miller will be forced to shut his snarky mouth. But that is a whole other blog post. ;)

The Vampire's Kiss

What is it that gets my blood boiling for a wickedly delicious vampire? It might be the danger or possibly the fangs. A little bloodletting can go a long way. ;)

Some might say that vampires are bigger now than ever before. I would agree with this to some extent, however, I do hope that people remember the origins of the vampire. They are not sparkly high school boys that adore plain jane girls. (Sorry Twilight lovers, I adored the stories but that is just not an accurate representation of what a vampire really is)

Let's take a look at THE vampire of all vampires...Dracula.
Dracula was nothing if not dark and deadly. Did he wander his castle halls brooding and obsessing over his guilt and blood hunger? No. He reveled in his power, in his hunger and his ability to have whatever he wanted, including another man's wife.

This is what a vampire is to me. That's not to say these vampires lack emotion or pain. It is that they are monsters first and foremost with little room or desire to play human. The beauty of fiction is that every author is free to create their own rules and character traits. And that is fine with me. Even I have a vampire character, Kale Sinclair, that struggles with his urges. But does he avoid human blood and whine about being a monster? No.

To me, it would be sexier if the Edwards and the Louis' of the vampire world would unleash the beast within they fight so hard to restrain. Take a cue from Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and let the monster rule the man.

And of course, my own personal vampire love, Arys Knight is also a vampire that enjoys it. Immensely. Excerpt featuring Arys in Once Bitten below:

Even in the dark, I could see the whites of her eyes as she struggled to resist his allure. He held her immobile, and my heart paused when her gaze landed on me. I was still yards away, but she saw me clearly as her vampire-induced disorientation loosened its hold. She gave a strangled cry, and Arys clamped a hand over her mouth. As she whimpered, I stood frozen, unable to come to her aid as she hoped. If anything, my presence only excited the vampire more.

Arys’ pupils glowed a deep, feral red; his mouth was smeared with blood as he drank from her jugular. I should have been sickened, but I wasn’t. Had becoming a supernatural creature made me immune to human suffering? Not entirely.

The fear in her wide-eyed stare bothered me more than her fading life. My own reaction to the scene bothered me more. Despite my own personal beliefs and born humanity, I am a predator, and in that moment, I enjoyed Arys’ feeding. The scent of spilt human blood tantalized my senses. The sight of the crimson splashes stirred things low inside me.

Josh Koscheck...Can't Get Enough!

I know it wasn't all that long ago that I had Josh Koscheck splashed in the pages of my blog here. But how can I not? Have you seen the guy?

Truth be told, I thought Josh was a total dick when I saw him on the 1st season of The Ultimate Fighter. But as much of a jerk as he is (shame on him for picking on poor Chris Leben) I can't help but put him at the top of my list of sexy fighters. He is just so perfectly formed. And looks much better with his clothes off. ;)

Flash Fiction Excerpt

Every Sunday at the LSB blog www.LiquidSilverBooks.com/blog there is flash fiction going on. This past Sunday was the first time I took part, using a new character. So I thought I'd share it here as well.

The silence descended like a thick cloud, wrapping Jayde’s body in the illusion of black velvet. She moved soundlessly, barely touching the floor as she glided toward the open window.
Looking down upon him in the dark garden, she was filled with a longing for both his body and his blood. Her fangs ached to pierce through his tender flesh, to suck his innocence into her in every way. How desperately she desired him.
Sensing the vampiress’ eyes upon him, Willow looked up to find her in the window, her silhouette taunting him. Though he knew that he should fear her, he couldn’t help the rush of blood to his loins as he looked up into her glowing eyes.

Before Jayde had even descended the spiral staircase, Willow was waiting for her there at the bottom. He held out a hand to her and she reached for it, reveling in its warmth. His scent was intoxicating, driving her to taste him.
“Why is it that I do not fear you?” Willow whispered, inhaling her strong flowery scent. “Even if you were to drain my life away here and now, I would die happy.”
He kissed her then, boldly pulling her tightly into his embrace. The sound of his pounding heart beat in her ears, driving her to claim him. Kissing her way down the smooth skin of his neck, she murmured, “My love, you truly are a fool.”

The need to fill her dominated him and Willow found himself responding to her with a heady fervor. As her cool lips and tongue traced the pulsing vein in his throat, he groaned and slid a hand down her thigh, seeking the hem of her skirt.
When Willow’s hand slipped beneath the silky material, Jayde clung to him, any remaining resistance inside her quickly waning. His pulse beat against her tongue and the bloodlust rose to consume her.
His need was evident as he pressed against her, his hand playing with the lace trim of her undergarments. Pulling him down with her, Jayde lay back on the stairs and slowly slid her long skirt up to expose her thighs.

Willow kneeled before her, desire scorching him like a fire raging out of control. Running a hand up each of her silky smooth legs, he leaned in to kiss her again, slipping his tongue between her lips. The tips of her fangs grazed his tongue, sending a jolt of pleasure throughout his body.
Slowly, tauntingly, Jayde spread her legs wide enough for him to slip in between her thighs. The rough edge to his bruising kiss thrilled her, sending a flood of heat to her groin. He reached to cup her breasts and she sighed in contentment.
Licking his lower lip, she squirmed against him until she felt him grow harder. Willow was ready, throbbing against her with an ache he had never known before.

Jayde was caught up in the sensations, the powerful need that he caused within her. She knew there was no stopping once they passed the point of no return.
“Willow,” she whispered, afraid to break the spell holding them in its thrall. “I can’t take much more of this. I need you now.”
Her words stirred his passion and Willow responded by sliding her flimsy thong underwear down her legs, tossing it aside. Before she could reach to free him of his clothing, he was tearing it off in haste.
When at last he was beautifully nude before her, she beckoned for him to take her. The silk of her skirt pooled around them when he moved between her thighs to claim her.

MMA Monday - Ryan Bader

Ryan "Darth" Bader will be fighting April 1st, 2009 in UFC Fight Night 18. It will be televised live on Spike TV. Ryan is newer than some to the UFC but he has nothing less than an impressive performance so far.
Ryan Bader won the title of The Ultimate Fighter's light heavyweight championship. His current MMA record shows zero losses so we can count on Ryan to bring his A game on Wednesday night.

I know it's not MMA Monday but I was in the mood for a muscly blonde with a cocky attitude and Junie Browning seems to fit the bill. I've seen him fight and damn it's hot! I also have a penchant for guys with platinum blonde hair so that may be why. ;)

MMA Monday - Rich Franklin

Rich Franklin was born October 5th, 1974. He has achieved a substantial amount in his mma career, including becoming a UFC middleweight champion. He has also been featured in several knockout shows because of his keen ability to KO an opponent quite impressively.
Rich is involved with the Keep It In The Ring program that is designed to promote effective outlets for aggression and eliminate violence among youths.
Rich will be fighting in July at the upcoming UFC 99. His opponent will be Wanderlei Silva. That will surely be one to watch.

Well I was very pleased and excited to get my first review for Once Bitten. I thought I would post the link here for anyone who is interested in reading it. I feel pretty good about it. Only negative comment about something the reviewer found to be cliche but hey, that's fine. It's just one opinion. My only actual complaint is that she didn't mention Shaz at all, as if he wasn't even in it. But otherwise, I was more than happy with some of the great things she said. How exciting!

MMA Monday - Josh Koscheck

Josh Koscheck is no stranger to critics. After being one of the most self centered, annoying guys on The Ultimate Fighter 1, he has successfully earned his place in the UFC, though he remains a bit of a pain in the ass. :)

Josh was born in 1977. He is of mixed ethnicity, both Caucasian and African American which makes him truly unique to look at. His blue eyes are a shade only found on a mixed person and they are outstandingly beautiful. If only his attitude matched. However, he certainly makes no apologies for who he is, and that can only be admired.

MMA Monday - Nate Marquardt

Nate Marquardt was born April 20th, 1979. He has been training in martial arts since his teen years. He evolved into mixed marital arts after seeing footage of the UFC. Nate has spent time fighting in Japan with the Pancrase organization where he did amazingly well. It was August 2005 when Nate Marquardt made his UFC debut.

This man is one hell of a fighter. He fights like a dancer, with every move perfectly in place. His performance at UFC 95 was outstanding. Rather than fumbling for a hold or grappling around looking for an advantage, he knows what he is going for and he lands it almost every time. Nate is a true joy to watch in the octagon, a fighter that allows his skill to lead him.

Born in 1979 in Columbus, Ohio, Forrest almost gave up his fight career before responding to an audition call for the very first Ultimate Fighter reality show on Spike TV. The show went on to be bigger than expected and so did Forrest. He's a fun guy that you just can't help but like once you get to know him a little. He seriously lacks the cocky, smack talking attitude that many other fighters have.

Whiskey Inspiration

“You were dreaming about him again.”
“Yes.” She wiped the sleep from her eyes and blinked at the strange man in her kitchen.
“You’re not afraid. But it isn’t because you are truly not afraid, is it? You don’t feel anymore.” It was not a question or a comment but a statement of truth.
“No. Nor do I care to.” She padded over to the freezer and retrieved the bottle. “I suppose I should ask who you are and what you want from me. Care for a drink?” When he declined she shrugged and lifted the bottle to her lips. “I don’t suppose you’ve come here to kill me.” Her tone sounded hopeful.
“No, not at all. Actually, I’ve come here to show you something. That is, if you are interested.”
She looked at him through tired, glazed eyes. “I have nothing to lose.” He regarded her with sadness and she took another swig. She was apathetic to it.
“Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Serene.”
“I’m sorry. I never thought to introduce myself. My name is-,”
“Elise. I know. I know all about it.” She sighed with something like relief. But maybe it was guilt. Another shaky swallow.
“So, Serene. What have you got to show me?” Her eyes were bloodshot and her blood coursed with alcohol but she stood her ground and stared steadily at him.
“I’m going to give you a choice Elise. A chance to take it all back.” She stared in wide-eyed silence. “I will show you the alternative to what has happened and allow you to make the choice.” Her eyes narrowed but she said nothing. “I need your permission to proceed.”
Elise blinked for a moment before registering the comment and nodding her assurance. “Sure, whatever you say.”
Before she could even gasp, it seemed the world turned upside down and suddenly she was standing outside looking in on herself. Serene stood beside her and she was reminded of the Ebenezer Scrooge story.
“What the hell is going on?” Her whiskey bottle was gone and she shivered from the cold. Or was that the anxiety? Through the window her reflection twirled in front of a mirror.
“This Elise, is how your future would have played out had you let him go when you were given the choice.” She watched her other self with suspicious eyes as she twirled in front of the mirror and examined every side of her wedding dress. It was the most beautiful dress she’d ever seen.
“What are you talking about? What’s going on?”
“Watch.”
And she did. She watched herself exit the room with a big grin on her face and her sister in tow. She saw herself marry another man. She swore her life to him, until death do they part. And she saw herself happy. Her mother and father cried and she tossed the bouquet. It was just how she’d imagined it. Only it was the wrong man.
“Why isn’t it him?” she demanded of Serene. “Tell me where he is.”
“He is where he always was,” Serene’s voice was quiet. He let her feel what it was that ruled her.
“Where? At war? He’s sent there anyway?” Elise fumed as she watched her life escalate from a wedding to a marriage and two lovely children. “Why are you showing me this?”
“That’s why I’m here. To show you the alternative.” Serene’s voice was neutral, calming, as it was angering.
“And what is that?” Her voice was challenging and she kicked a rock at her feet just to see if she could. “I don’t want to do this.”
“You have the choice to go on without him. Neither of you would ever know the other existed. You will marry and live happily.” Serene’s expression never really left that neutral sadness.
“But he still dies?” Her tone was incredulous.
“He is still a soldier.”
“Dammit, he doesn’t deserve this! He died anyway and it had nothing to do with being a soldier. Why did you come here?” Elise sobbed but the tears seemed unreal. She wiped her eyes but nothing was there.
Suddenly Serene took her by the shoulders and gave her a shake. “Because he doesn’t have to die of a broken heart. He can die with honor as a man of his country if you will let him. Just say the word and you can set him free.”
Elise wept openly, sobs coming from deep within her, wracking her body. She cried until her very soul was weak. It just wasn’t fair. How could she be forced to make such a choice?
“If I let him go he dies anyway, while I go on to never know of him and live happily with another man?” Even saying the words they were distant and foreign to her.
“Yes.”
“And what if I say no? What if I choose to leave it exactly how it is?” She sniffled and swiped at her nose. Her bottle was once again in her hand. Her familiar kitchen surrounded her.
“Then he is still dead.” They stared intently at one another across the kitchen island.
“And what about me?” There was a pitiful laugh in her voice as she said the words.
“You die too.”
The effect of his words were like a slap in the face but Elise knew she had nothing left to hold her. She saw that amazing wedding and she knew that she did not want it if it was not with him. The children that could have been hers were beautiful, but they were not hers with him. Did she want to grow old and die without him? Not a chance.
“So be it. The last thing I wish is for him to be erased from my life, my soul. If he dies anyway, then let me die with him.” The sad expression on Serene’s face bothered Elise. “Would you rather I lived an ignorant life without him while he is left alone to face death in war? Is that what you would choose?”
Serene met Elise’s outrage with a sad smile. “I knew all along what your choice would be. I was sent only to give you the option, not to sway your decision.”
Elise rubbed at her sore, red eyes. This couldn’t be real. It just couldn’t be. The bottle was a cold, hard reminder of how real it was. This would be her death. And rightly so. She died a little inside every time she remembered.
“Then let me die,” she sobbed. “Because I would rather lose it all than have everything without him. I made a mistake. And I will pay for it for eternity. But I won’t let him suffer alone.” Her fingers clutched the bottle in a white knuckled grip. Serene shook his head and avoided her unwavering eyes.
“Is that truly what you wish?” He sighed in anticipation of her answer.
“It is,” she said softly. “I just want to be with him somehow, because here I am completely without him.”
Serene said nothing, he just nodded. Humans were creatures of need that at times he did not fully understand but he knew their pain was greater and so he gave her hand a warm pat and headed for the door. He looked back one last time and she shook her head. Her mind was made up.
Elise watched the strange fair-haired man leave through her front door and for just a moment thought she glimpsed the tips of white feathers from beneath his long jacket. And then he was gone. And she was left alone with her memories and her whiskey.
She nursed them both and curled up on the couch, in the dark. And that was how they found her long after she’d drunk herself into oblivion.

Hello Saturday Night!

I wish I didn't feel so damn exhausted. I spent the last 2 days busting my ass to get all of my freelance work for the week completed. It was hard. But only because I wasn't in the mood. After working my fingers to the bone I was able to turn to the manuscript proofs that Terri sent me. They had very minor changes which I am now done! Hurray!

So for the rest of the weekend I am working only on fiction. I have Once Bitten's sequel which is almost 50,000 words complete. And I also want to keep working on the new one with Lyric and Jade. That one is still very fresh, only 6000 words in. Next week I start a new schedule for my writing in the hopes that I will get more fiction done in a week than I am currently.

So that is my little update. Monday there will be another hot UFC fighter posted here. I'm not sure who that will be yet. I may have to do some picture searching and a little drooling. :)

CH 1 of New Novel - Lyric's Gift

Chapter 1

It was quiet. Too quiet. Not a dry leaf crinkled nor a dog dared bark. The cold night stood in near silence. How deceitful. Beneath the stark illusion lie a world of darkness where things grew and pulsed, thriving on horrors and death. Creatures from the expected to the never would have dreamed possible existed solely to extinguish life and love.

Blood thirsty and exhausted, Jade Kenyan walked in shadow. Alone, for tonight anyway. He was growing bored with the women that he’d begun using to fill the empty space at his side. It did nothing to soothe the real longing, the pain of so many years.

Tonight he hunted without care. It was the ache of decades that cut him so much deeper on this night than any. It was hard to believe that another year had passed already since he’d last mourned another anniversary of the death of his wife.

He stalked the streets of the city with only one thing on his mind now. An easy kill that no one would miss. Plenty of those on this side of the city. It was just a matter of singling one out.
Jade tried to blend in with the few people walking down the street. Nobody cared enough looked twice at him anyway. Long hair tied back neatly, well dressed in a black Armani suit, he looked like one of many men who worked in the business district ten blocks away. It wasn’t unusual for them to take a stroll for a little after hours action from the girls on the strip. In no time at all he should be satisfying the bloodlust.

Cars continued to pass by but no longer in droves like the peak hours. Jade passed by more than a few working girls who called to him before spotting the one he wanted. It only took a moment for Jade to realize that she wasn’t a working girl at all. Rather, she appeared to be waiting for the bus.

He slowed his pace and pretended to check his watch. He wanted a better look at the dark haired woman half a block away. What was she doing out here so late if not working? Most women out after midnight in this end of town were looking for trouble of some kind or another.

Lyric Morrison dug her cell phone out of her bag and double checked the time. If she missed the last bus she was screwed. She doubted she had enough cash on her to take a cab home. Maybe she should try Erin again and pray for an answer. She’d already left two messages. If anything her friend was at one of her “underground” hangouts. The music would be too loud to hear her cell phone.

Cursing, Lyric slid a cigarette from the near empty pack, lighting it as she redialed her roommate. No luck and still no bus. Shit! There were people walking toward her. No big deal, she told herself. It’s cool. She hated being out alone like this but her car had recently died and so public transit had become the temporary alternative.

Pulling her long faux fur coat tightly around her, she worried that the four inch stilettos made her look as if she was out to turn tricks. Lyric was actually a well trained burlesque dancer. The only reason she was in this part of town in the first place was because her and the girls had performed there at the birthday party for a rich, aging millionaire. That was the last time she agreed to accept payment by check.

She should have caught a ride home with one of the other girls. Something didn’t feel right. She watched the people nearby suspiciously. Being psychic didn’t mean being able to know everything about everyone but it did often mean having an advantage.

There was a tall man in an expensive suit half a block away. Probably on the prowl for what he wasn’t getting at home. A couple had turned off down another street and the atmosphere seemed to grow cold. Another man, much closer, seemed to be fumbling with something in his pocket. A gun?

His eyes were fixed on her and his lips moved but the sound he produced was slurred and inaudible. Lyric watched him, frozen. She saw it then, the vision. It passed before her eyes. The glint of the knife as it sliced through the air to bury itself fatally in her abdomen. A drug fiend out to rob what he thought to be a prostitute with a few bucks in her purse.

The man charged her suddenly and she threw her hands up to ward off the blow. The knife was there in his hand but he didn’t swing. He groped wildly for her bag. He reeked of cheap booze and days old sweat.

Lyric tried unsuccessfully to defend herself, balancing precariously on her impossible shoes. She’d barely gotten a scream out when her attacker was snatched away. The man in the suit from down the street held him immobile, his eyes glowing with a feral light.

With a snap Jade successfully disarmed the man. He silenced the pained howl with a hand and dragged him into the shadows between two buildings. Sinking fangs deep, he lost himself momentarily in the heady glow of the forbidden elixir. Caught in a vicious cycle, even as Jade killed, he mourned the frailty of human life.

Lyric stared open mouthed into the shadows. Vampire. Gasping to catch her breath, she could only shake her head. As a true psychic, she’d had her share of run ins with vampires. The supernatural could often sense one another. The gift had run in the women of her family for generations. Her abilities encompassed variations of telepathy, limited telekinesis and spontaneous visions of the future.

She hadn’t felt him as a vampire. He must naturally shield hard, which one had to if possessing any kind of mental capabilities of the sixth sense. But the fact that she’d had no sense of him whatsoever meant he was certainly a powerful one.

He was incredibly handsome. She had never seen a man with such long, amazing hair. The deepest brown but not at all black. She strained for a better look into the dark, resisting the urge to follow.

Her eyes focused on the moving shapes beyond the street front. The vampire fed voraciously. There was a strangled groan and then silence. Lyric couldn’t tear her eyes away from the shadows. She would be damned if that bus showed up now.

It felt like ages before the vampire stepped into the glow of the street light. He had not even a hair out of place. Green eyes rimmed in gold met Lyric’s uneasy gaze. She shielded so hard, afraid he would force his way into her mind. If he came for her, there wasn’t much she could do.

“Are you ok?” Jade asked. He held a hand out to her, hoping it appeared harmless. She didn’t budge.

Her aura was strong and looking into her storm coloured eyes he was reminded of the sky during an afternoon rain shower. Oh, how long since he’d gazed upon those skies.

She was shielding so tight, he couldn’t help but be even more aware of her power. She was a gifted human, rarer than the average fortune teller would have you think.

“I’m fine, thank you.” Lyric caught her breath and studied the man before her. There was nothing predatory in the way he looked at her. “You just saved my life.”

“What are you doing out here alone? This isn’t the street you want to be walking after dark.” Jade was careful not to address her statement. He was nobody’s hero.

“I know,” she replied, shivering in the cooling night air. “I just did a show. I’m a dancer. A trained dancer, not a triple x dancer.” She was adamant about the kind of dance she did. It was artistic and took a lot of training and hard work. Nudity was brief and minimal at best. “I didn’t think I’d get stuck out here. My damn car just broke down. Last Ford I’ll ever buy.”

“I think you missed the bus.” Jade looked up and down the street. Only a few cars went by. The night was dying down.

“Yeah, that figures.” She ground out the remains of her cigarette with her high heeled shoe. Strangely, she didn’t feel so afraid anymore.

“Do you live far? Why don’t you let me get you a taxi?” Jade could barely take his eyes off of her ruby red lips. The raven black hair and those bad girl heels invited him to guess what was beneath the faux fur coat.

“Oh, I couldn’t ask you to do that.” She protested. Desperately she began to redial Erin again.

“You didn’t ask. And really, it’s nothing to ensure you get home safely.”

Though everything about what he said was genuine, Lyric couldn’t resist teasing. “Your gesture is appreciated Mr.…Vampire, but how am I to be sure I won’t be your next midnight snack?”
Jade was mildly surprised. He hadn’t been sure if she would recognize him for what he was or not. Impressive. She had the gift alright.

“Why don’t you tell me?” He asked. There was no mistaking his meaning. She wouldn’t have expected a vampire not to know that she had psychic abilities. However, a level of safety lie in the fact that he could not know the extent of her ability, unless he chose to test her.

She knew damn well this creature had just killed a man in cold blood but it wasn’t the first nor would it be the last murder she’d witnessed. Links to the supernatural world often resulted in many such incidents. It didn’t work the same as the human world. But he had saved her and having only that to base her decision on, she slipped her phone back into her bag.

“Thank you. I will gladly and gratefully accept a taxi ride home.” She now offered him her hand. “I’m Lyric.”

He knew she’d be warm but was still pleasantly surprised at just how warm. “Jade Kenyan,” he said. Her scent was intoxicating. Roses and the faintest hint of vanilla.

“I’m incredibly pleased to meet you, Lyric. That is a beautiful name. Your mother must have been a singer.”

“She was,” Lyric nodded. “She was a flower child of the sixties. To this day she claims to have jammed with Hendrix.”

She laughed then and pulled her hand away. Jade’s touch was just too warm and inviting. He was nothing but a stranger to her. He chuckled along with her but noted her sudden change in demeanor.

“I’d better be going,” Lyric glanced down the street, looking for the glow of an approaching taxi. “If you’d like to give me a way to reach you, I’d like to pay you back. At least for the cab.” She doubted there was any way of thanking him for her life.

Jade raised a hand to flag down the next cab to come down the block. As it eased up to the curb next to them he pressed a handful of bills into her palm.

“Consider it a favor. No worries.” He flashed a smile and opened the car door for her. When she was inside he spoke through the open window. “Have an evening as truly beautiful as yourself, Lyric.”

He stepped back and the car pulled away quickly, like he’d hoped it would. Those stormy eyes undid something inside of him, something he preferred to keep shut up tight.

She glanced back at him for one last look before he was out of sight. Strange. Lyric couldn’t deny that he was mesmerizing, but definitely dangerous no matter how nice he’d been. Opening her closed fist, she carefully unfolded the crumpled bills. Her eyes widened.

He’d given her more than a hundred dollars for a forty dollar cab ride. He may not have been born in this century but he existed in it. Surely he knew the average cost of a cab ride across the city. It was more than generous. She would definitely have to pay him back.

Though she wasn’t sure how. He’d carefully avoided giving her too much information about himself. Jade Kenyan. She didn’t recognize the name. However, Lyric knew well that life worked in mysterious ways.

Jade had been in the right place at the right time to save her life. If their paths were meant to cross again, they would. And until then, she owed him one hundred dollars.

MMA Monday - Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez is just 26 years old. However, he has accomplished plenty in his short years. This past Saturday he made his debut as a lightweight after dropping from 170 pounds to 156. He is originally from Albuquerque.

Though Diego has been known to have a bit of an attitude, he has impressive skills in the octagon. His ability to get out of certain ground holds is absolutely uncanny. My "Fuck You Facebook" Rant

Since Facebook pulled all of this shit that just came to light this week, I am less than impressed with them. When they reverted to their original terms of service to make everyone shutup while they work it out, it did nothing to appease me.

But what I am really pissed about right now is the fact that I deleted my book cover from Facebook. It is still not showing in my photo album. However, it keeps reappearing as my profile picture even though I deleted it and changed my pic to a different one! What in the fuck?? Now I can't even delete something that it is my God given right to delete?

On top of this, my insurance company keeps sending me pink slips with the wrong information. No matter how many times I tell them that I did not buy my Dodge Charger from a Pontiac dealer, they keep listing them as my leasor. Like what the hell??

Ok, that's it. I am coming down off of my soap box now. Rant is over. But I'm still simmering...grrr! This might be a good time to write a killing scene lol.

African Red Tea, Nyquil & Valentine's Day

That pretty much sums up my entire past 5 days of existence. It sure hasn't been easy. It started with my 10 year old daughter coming down with the flu. In no time at all both my fiance and I had it too. It had me in bed for 3 days. It was so bad that I couldn't even crack open my laptop. Hellish weekend I tell ya. And damn am I glad it's over. Well...mostly over. My lungs are killing me from all of the non-stop coughing. I can't wait until that part is over.

So Valentine's Day is just a few days away. Today I picked up a few things for my sweetie (who had better not be reading this!). I got him a silly ass card with those love coupons inside for various little gifts ;). I also got a multipack of assorted KY massage oils and lubes as well as one of those Durex vibrating love rings. That should kick off the night right on VDay, lol. Anyone else have any juicy plans?

The Vampire: Jander Sunstar

I decided that since vampires and werewolves play such a large role in my life, I will showcase one of my personal favourites from a work of fiction every week. I decided to go back in time to 1991, when I was a kid and I discovered Vampire of the Mists by Christie Golden. It is the first novel in the Ravenloft series that many know and love. I didn't ever go any farther in the series. Other than the vampire featured in this novel, I had little interest. But at the age of 12, this book did a lot to fuel my desire for vampires. And there is a werewolf named Trina in it!

Jander Sunstar is more than just a vampire, he is also an elf. In his attempt to be good, he feeds from the inmates at a mental hospital where he meets and falls in love with a woman named Anna. When she dies, he is obssessed with discovering what led to her mind shattering madness, and he will go to any length to avenge her.

I loved this vampire. This book has an ending that made me cry. Even the second and third time I read it. It will remain on my list of favourites always. I highly recommend it to those that have not yet read it. It has since been reprinted with a new cover but honestly, I didn't like the cover at all so I posted the old one. The one from my childhood. :)

Worst Week Wednesday

Seriously, this has got to be one of the worst weeks I have had in a long time in terms of productivity. I just have not been getting nearly as much work done as I should be. I have lightened my freelance load for this week to a whopping hour or two of work per day so that I have more time to go hard on my fiction. However, even those piddly work hours have been neglected.

This entire week has been really off for me. I'm not sure why. I thought it was PMS but that proved not to be the case.
Sigh.
I guess it's just one of those weeks. One of those bury my head in the sand as the world keeps turning weeks. Grrr!

Hair Dye & Werewolf Adventures

That pretty much sums up my weekend. After letting my hair colour fade out really badly, I finally just made myself take the time to touch it up. It feels like such a chore at the time but looks so much better after, lol. So now my red looks red again and not a strange pinkish colour.

After tearing apart some of my current WIP, I have spent the weekend rebuilding the plot and it has been coming along really good. And thanks Gem for leaving some feedback on the post where I was agonizing over this. I realized from your questions that I should have given a little info from the first novel before throwing out a blurb for the sequel. My bad. Thanks again for the storyboard idea. I may give that a try next time issues arise.

Twitter is so quiet right now. I know it's because everyone is watching the Superbowl. Not me though. I am not a football fan. I prefer the UFC myself or a good hockey game.

Zombie Friday

Since both the fiance and the kid had the day off today, I figured last night was somewhat of an early weekend. So I had a glass or 2 of vanilla vodka and Pepsi. Maybe it was more like 3 or 4. I sure was feeling it this morning. Woke up with a hell of a headache after sleeping in much too late. It threw off my entire work day. Go figure. Needless to say, it will be a long and sober night of writing.

I made some nice progress on my WIP last night so I want to finish off the chapter that I'm currently on. I think it's going to come together pretty well. Of course, that's following my plan. My characters often have their own plans and tend to reveal things as I go that I wish they had mentioned earlier. Lol. Though they often make the story so much better by doing so.

Psionic/Psychic Abilities

This type of thing comes into play in my fiction quite heavily. In fact, it is one of the main plot points in Once Bitten. Psychic abilities are fascinating and I have always enjoyed their use in paranormal fiction. There are many common ones that we are all familiar with but as I do more research I am finding some that I had never heard of.

According to Wikipedia, writing without conscious thought is considered a psychic ability. Lol, strange huh? But cool. It seems that abilities are broken down into groups such as: ESP, Telekinesis and Clairvoyance. Psionics is also a category. The Wikipedia definition for Psionics: Psionics is the study and/or practice of using the mind to induce paranormal phenomena.

Psionics includes a number of psychic abilities from the manipulation of energy to telekinesis or telepathy. My female lead, Alexa, is a Psion with natural abilities to do some of these things. I'm finding it a lot of fun to play with through her and the real life study is fascinating. This topic is so huge and I am trying to absorb all of the information that I can.

Need Author Opinions

I've been whining lately about being stumped with my WIP. I have thrown together a small blurb here of the idea going around in my mind. Before I proceed full on with it, I'd like to see what you guys think based on the blurb alone. This is for the sequel to Once Bitten, which is the book Liquid Silver Books contracted from me. Having the blurb does seem backwards but it helped me to condense my ideas.

When Alexa O’Brien kills the wrong vampire her life spirals out of control. The target of a deadly vendetta, she is caught up in conflict between her two lovers and the vengeance of a vampire scorned. Bite Me

Since it goes hand in hand with my writing and many of my obvious interests, I thought I would blog about biting today. Am I the only one that likes it? I seriously doubt that. That perfect bite in a sensitive spot during or before the act of sex can send crazy tingles through me and increase the intensity of the moment.

As an author of vampire fiction, the perfect bite can serve its purpose in many ways. It can be sexy, sensual or downright scary. And that can be fun too. ;) Of course when it comes to things like biting there is always a health risk involved. It should only be done with someone that you know and trust completely. Drawing blood is a whole other level of biting. It's not something I engage in myself though I know many people do.

Any thoughts or comments on biting or being bitten? My current lover and fiance is not as into it as I am though he does enjoy it at times. I did have a former lover that really liked it and would leave me bruised after a vigorous round. Good thing I can live out all of my vampy fantasies through my characters. :)

The Confusion of Independent Characters

That above quote really sums up how my day is starting. I spent the entire weekend going over the edits I got back. Re-reading my entire novel with a scrutinizing eye was a long and tiring job. Still not done but almost. I'm doing great on time.

Today my problem is the sequel to Once Bitten. I blasted through and got 60,000 words out in a matter of weeks. And now one of my characters is telling me he needs more screen time and that I need to cut a plot point, save it for a future book and give him the attention he's demanding. Which means cutting a large chunk of what I've written and re-writing. That would be fine if I knew where I was going with this. But I don't. So I'm trying to take Mr. Bradbury's advice b/c the more I think about it the more blank the slate in my mind becomes.

This happened to me during the first novel too and in the end the changes were for the best. I know that's how it will be here too. I just need to know what that change is going to be. Frustrating.
*sigh*
If only Shaz would just tell me what he wants from me. Grrr!

So much for that metaphysics blog I wanted to post. Some time this week I will get to it.

Vanilla Vodka & Vampires

That is my recipe for a perfect Friday night lol. Today really dragged. I had a hard time focusing on the freelance project I had to work on. I am still on cloud 9 over my book cover (silly shit I know) and I have been in a fiction frame of mind. But now it's the weekend and that means fiction 24/7 until Monday. And that means vampires, werewolves and maybe a little naughty fun too.

I have a buttload of editing to approve for Once Bitten plus working on the sequel. I'm at a turning point in that one, unsure which direction my characters are leading me. They tend to throw me curveballs. I have a lot of "ah ha!" moments with my domineering vampire who likes to surprise me. I'm sure my fellow authors can relate.

I'd like to post a few blogs over the week discussing something other than my insanity and busy schedule. Hopefully I will get back here tomorrow with a post on metaphysics. Since it plays a large role in my books, I'd like to explore it further outside of them as well.

First Book Cover Jitters

I knew it was coming but it is still so exciting. I woke up to an email that contained the draft of my book cover. I have been really worried that I would hate it. I've seen some amazing covers that I love and some that I don't care for much. And I was worried that I would hate it and then have to say so, lol. But it's actually really nice! I keep looking at it every few minutes. It's so surreal in a way since this is my first contracted novel.

I know that I need to keep it for a day or two and think about it before replying with my yay or nay. I think it will be a yay but I want to think it through. There are some aspects that may not be quite as I would have done them but there are others that are even better than I would have liked. My only complaint is that the woman portraying my female lead doesn't have hair as long as I would like. Lol. Is that really something to bitch about though when the rest is perfect?

The artist captured my two male leads as well, better than I could have ever hoped for. So I am a happy author looking forward to a day of writing that will be fueled by this excitement. :)

Menage a Trois Anyone?

Ok, I managed to fly through the freelance writing work that I had on my to do list for today. But now that I am turning my attention to my fiction, I'm struggling to make the swap. I want to do at least 2000 words today. I also have to get started on going over the edits I got back for the novel Liquid Silver contracted, Once Bitten. So my day is packed because I still have a few more freelance articles to churn out later.

The novel I'm currently working on is the sequel to Once Bitten. It's called The Wicked Kiss and it is a pain in my ass lol. I made a few changes that required the rewrite of a chapter or two. And that's where I'm currently at, about 60,000 words in, but I still have some cuts to make which will lower that a little.

My immediate problem is this scene with Alexa and her two lovers. It's tricky because these guys don't particularly like each other yet the scene is somewhat intimate. I don't want it to go too far but I also want it to be a sweet tease without making readers wish I'd gone further. If that makes sense lol. I just can't compromise the characters for sex but this teaser is necessary to everything overall. I think most of my struggle lies in the fact that there is background noise here which can be distracting when trying to write a hot scene. I like to be fully mentally present for those lol.

Now off I go, hopefully to write something I won't edit out later lol.

Embracing History

The entire world is tuned into Obama's inauguration. I am too of course. And I'm not even American. But as a Canadian I have learned first hand how closely tied our two countries are. And that what affects the U.S. affects us too. And really, we're all in this together. If I could have voted in the election I would have voted for Obama too. I was pulling for him the entire way. So I definitely share in the excitement the world is feeling today. Goodbye Bush! So long, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Did I Think This Mini Laptop Through Enough?

I am currently sitting at my desk, staring back and forth between two different laptops. This one is old faithful, the one that has been taking my abuse for the last 2 years. But as good as it is, it has been starting to show signs of aging. So me being the impulsive shopper that I am, went out and started browsing for a second laptop to ease the workload of the first. And of course I spotted those little mini ones, the 9 inchers. And I think they are so cute and so easy to carry around, so I buy one.

It's not bad. I like it. But it is taking some getting used to. I already know the majority of my writing will still be done on old faithful but the new mini will be perfect for net surfing, research, and carrying around in my shoulder bag. Eliminates a big heavy laptop case and accessories so that's nice. And I could write on it when waiting for my kid to get out of school or stuck waiting for an oil change, etc. But long hours on the small screen, no deal. Not gonna happen.

So for $400 and 144GB it's not a bad little machine. Same brand as old faithful here so I trust it. Acer in case anyone cares. Not mad expensive but it works. We do have a desktop but my fiance has all of his music recording stuff on it and I like something portable so I never use it.

Now that I'm done my boring laptop talk, I should try to get some writing done. This same scene has been mind fu**ing me all day. I just need to get it out and over with.

A Sexy Vampire & A Werewolf Yet I Am Not Motivated

I think it must be the fact that it's Sunday. Sundays are always massively boring days for me for some reason. I think it stems back to having nothing to do and nothing on TV as a kid lol. But now I have tons to do and I still feel the same way. I have a super hot vampire and the sweetest werewolf you could ever dream of waiting for me to jump back into the scene I last abandoned them in. And yet...it's really hard to get my mind in that mode. Which sucks because it usually isn't.

And it's not a matter of writer's block. The block isn't there. It's the motivational aspect. If I could just get out the first few paragraphs I know it would suck me back into the story. But between the unusually nice day, twitter and household distractions, I am more thrown off my game than I like to be.

It doesn't help that my 10 year old daughter is in my face complaining like always about wanting this, that or the other. Ugh, the selfishness of kids is astounding. Maybe I should go lock myself up in my room or something. If worse comes to worse I may have to do just that lol. Sheesh!

And as long as I'm talking frustration here I might as well add that my broken laptop cord that keeps cutting out is making me so crazy I might just throw the whole damn machine into the snow. I actually hope to be getting a new laptop tomorrow if all goes as planned. I'm thinking of trying one of those neat little 8.9 inchers. Maybe I'll even get the pink one lol ;).

Now, I've got to get focused on these 2 amazing supernatural creatures I have created before Monday comes and I am back to juggling freelance writing work as well.

Beat Writer's Block - Don't Write

When writer's block hits there is no sense in staring uselessly at a blank screen waiting for something to happen. It can strike at any time, usually when you have a ton of writing time on your hands in which you could be getting so much done. But don't get stressed out. There are other things you can do to help ease writer's block.

1. Jot notes instead. It's what I always do first if I'm stuck or having a blank moment. I will jot down point form notes on what it is I'm stuck on or sometimes I will write notes on a totally different project. I want my novel to be its best so I find taking a time out is better than forcing something that sucks. You'll just end up with a rewrite later.

2. Read a book. Try grabbing an author that writes the same genre you're working on. For example, if you're stuck on a mystery, reading a good one can provide much needed inspiration to get your wheels turning again. My genre is paranormal romance/vampire & werewolf fiction. Just reading a good vampire book by a fellow author makes me excited to get back to my own special vamps.

3. Watch a movie or TV. Sometimes you need to stop looking at words and just relax. When you are thinking so hard for long periods, it can be vital to unwind and just not think. Grab a tea or coffee and laugh it up with your favorite sitcom. It can do wonders for your muse.

4. Get physically active. Your mind gets a lot of work done but what about your body? Get out of that chair and go take a walk or hop on the treadmill. A good workout should be a routine part of your day if possible. It gets the blood flowing and with it, the imagination.

5. Marketing and promotion. This is huge for fiction writers. Writing the book is often the smallest war of the overall battle. After that you need to promote it as much as you can, everywhere you can. If you're not in the mood to write, work on your website or blog, hit up Twitter or speak to readers of your work and genre via forums and other online avenues. Often just getting excited about your work will help you get back to it.

For the Love of Twitter

Ever since Angie turned me on to this damn site I have not been able to get enough. I am so into it I have been logging on through mobile twitter on my cell phone when I'm not home or near an internet connection. Talk about ridiculous. At first I couldn't imagine why I'd want to stare at people's twitters all day but now I just can't get enough. Of course when it's people that have interesting things to say, that helps.

I am trying to get a little more done in The Wicked Kiss. The past week was not nearly so productive so I want to make up for it this week. I'm still back and forth on a few plot issues too so I need to come to terms with that at some point. Soon.

Marketing my writing, both fiction and freelance, has been taking up more time lately than the actual writing does. Of course that's to be expected at some point. But I need to find a little better balance than the one I currently have going. I think it all comes back to my complaint that there simply are not enough hours in the day.

Now off I go to join Kale, sexy vampire extraordinaire, on a little hunt. Hopefully I'll get through it before bed calls and I have to give in. I hate breaking in the middle of action scenes.

Writing Paranormal Fiction

I have been writing since childhood. My first publication was at the age of 9 in my local newspaper. Now that I am underway with my first contracted novel, I am excited and pleased to share my own personal views and writing tips.

My chosen genre is paranormal fiction/paranormal romance. This is a really hot genre right now. It wasn't when I first fell in love with it at the age of 12. I wrote my first vampire fiction back then and that led to many more. It's been a real learning experience but as vampire fiction has grown to massive popularity it has also become truly fun and rewarding.

1. Get your rules straight. Every author has their own personal preference when it comes to the "rules" of vampires and werewolves. Can your vamp walk in the sun or not? Does he hate crosses or do they do nothing? This type of stuff has to be straight because you don't want to have inconsistencies in your rules.

2. Don't feel that you have to do what another author has done. By that I mean, if every other author has their vampires sleep in coffins and yours sleeps in a bed, who cares? It's your story. Write about what you love best.

3. Action is a large part of this genre, for the most part. Readers seem to love vampires and action. However, I have read some boring, slow vampire books that had me wondering if I was reading a fiction novel or a history text. Facts and info are great but keep your readers entertained in the meantime.

4. Don't feel like you have to stay within the realm of reality. Paranormal fiction is about creating and defining your own reality. Run with it.

5. This is your creation. Breathe life into it and let it flow. It can be somewhat overwhelming to watch your characters come to life because once they do they start to talk back and make their own decisions. But that's awesome because they tend to have a lot to contribute.

The most important part of fiction is finishing what you start. There is nothing if you do not finish. Keep writing and worry about the rest later. Things can be fixed, changes can be made. But don't stop writing.

Completely Twitterfied

I know I'm kind of late jumping on to this band wagon but so far it is damn fun! Angie (writing friend and colleague) turned me on to Twitter. I had heard of it of course but didn't think it would be useful for me. In just two days it has proven to be incredibly useful and tons of fun. I'm not sure why but I find it more addictive than either Facebook or MySpace. Lol.

I actually managed to get 5 solid, single spaced pages done in The Wicked Kiss yesterday. I have to do at least that much today if not more. I have this chapter in me and ready to pour out. I seem to be having motivational issues though. I'd also like to write an Ezine article for the promotion of my freelance site. But fiction is my priority today. At least, it would be if I could get started.

Of course if the wireless internet could be reliable for one day, that might help. I can't complain too much. It's the neighbor's signal that I am piggybacking off of. Don't worry, I'm allowed. They know about it. But if more than 4 people try to log on at a time, someone gets booted. And it's usually me since I'm not in their house and therefore the farthest one from the signal. The alternative is the dreaded dial up.

Well I'm going to make myself open up Chapter 18 and at the very least I will stare blankly at it. Lol. And of course do more tweeting.

40 Hour Days Please

24 hours simply are not enough hours to get done everything in a day that a writer must do. At least this writer. Plus if you want to enjoy your family and maybe sleep at some point, there is just not enough time. Perhaps a 40 hour day would work better.

I want to get done at least 10 pages in The Wicked Kiss today. I have a lot of work to do on that book yet but it has been coming along nicely. Of course now that I am done with holidays and back working I spend tons of time marketing my freelance work. I just launched a new website www.professionalcontentwriting.com to promote my services and now I need to do a bunch of blogging, twitter, ezines and all that to get in the search listings. It's a hella lot of work.

I also have 2 more business profiles to write for The Yellow Pages site www.EdmontonPlus.ca. And considering it's noon and I still have to drive my daughter's sleepover friend home, it's safe to say it's going to be a long day.

Fiction Writing - Making It A Priority

I have been writing fiction for as long as I can remember. Literally. I won my first award in 1990 when I was 9 years old. It was for a short story I had written about the meaning of Christmas. My local newspaper published it. I'm sure my mom still has a copy or two hidden away. So writing comes relatively easy to me.

However, it's still something I have to mix my daily life with. Family and work make it hard to write as often as I'd like. So keeping a daily page total goal really helps. Over this weekend I am dedicating myself to 25 pages which is a decent number. I've made really good progress on this book so far. The contract for my first one sure helped to light that fire under my ass though lol.

I am not nearly as organized as I'd like to be. If I could give new writers some advice it would be to stay organized within your workspace. And try to keep that from being a laptop in a case filled with papers. Like me. Unless that works for you. I guess some of us manage to accomplish something that way, though for the life of me I don't know how.

My longterm goal is to do fiction full time and freelance writing part time, which is the opposite of what I'm doing now. So my priority is always my fiction even when it doesn't get as much time in a day as I'd prefer.

Distractions Kick My Ass

Since I got back to work this week my fiction has taken its usual beating. I tend to get much less done on work days. I still always get something done but the page total I'd like is diminished. Of course there are weekends where I will go hard therefore not losing much progress but it's still difficult. I'd ideally like to do fiction full time. And hopefully I can get to that point.

With my fiance becoming ill and throwing up all night last night, I certainly did not get much done lol. Poor bastard. Life has a way of pulling me out of Alexa's world which I really hate. I need to stay close to her or I will lose the momentum I've built up.

New Year's resolutions are not going quite as planned. Do they ever? I'd really like to start a strict work out regime to tone up muscles that don't get worked when I'm sitting on my butt in this damn chair. I am probably such a pathetic weakling lol. I have a mini trampoline that I plan to use more often. Of course, I need to actually do it.

Fellow writers heed my warning. Try to stay better organized than I am.

So Much For The Holidays

That didn't take long. The holidays are sadly long over now and I am back to work doing my freelance writing gig. This week I'm writing business profiles for The Yellow Pages and doing some stuff for a lady I have been working for regularly. It's good pay but it does take away from fiction time.

I usually work all day and then do fiction pretty much all evening and then of course all weekend. It's a juggling act all right mixed in with family and trying to have a life. I currently have zero social life lol. Understandably. Time management is still something I'm trying to get right. When it comes to writing it's all I do but it's hard to stay organized with so much going on in my head.

After making some changes to the plot for The Wicked Kiss, I am now caught in between wanting to work on it feverishly and needing to make some money doing my day job as well. The snow falling outside really makes me want to get into bed with a good book, read and say screw it to working at all. Lol...if only.

Plot Changes: Better Late Than Never

After two entire days spent agonizing over my current manuscript, I have worked out the kinks and am proceeding almost full speed ahead. I ended up making a huge change to the plot but it's one that doesn't involve extensive rewriting, just some rebuilding.

It was a difficult decision to make but I did the same thing with ONCE BITTEN and that turned out for the best. So I'm confident that if I can keep everything tight and smooth, it will play out the way I'm envisioning it to. Of course, once you get going a book tends to write itself. So anything could happen but I'm back on track with Book 2 and feeling good about everything.

I'm hoping to have it finished in rough form around the time that ONCE BITTEN comes out. Then do some edits and polishing before submitting it to my publisher. But that is still months away. A few at least.

As far as New Year's resolutions go, I'd like to have Book 3 complete by the end of 2009. And of course I would like to work on some other projects as well aside from this series. That makes it sound really tough to go back to freelance work tomorrow but I have to. My schedule will be packed again. :
But I'm hoping it's just a matter of time until I don't have to juggle both and I can just focus on fiction full time. I'm excited just thinking about it. :)

Writer's Block & New Year's

Happy New Year! Here's hoping that 2009 will be the absolute best that it can be.

I have been struggling with writer's block for the last 2 days. I can't count how many hours I have been staring more than writing. Due to my decision to make a few changes I have gotten lost rewriting a few key points. I know it will all be for the best in the end. I also did this with my first novel and it turned out much better. But right now, this sucks!

My mind has been running on overdrive. I managed to solve one of my problems and just have a minor one left. But it still feels like a mountain to climb. I'm eager to get up and over it so I can finally be back to smooth sailing.

Happy New Year everyone! Get those resolution lists out. And don't drink and drive!

Every Author Needs A Website

No matter what kind of writer you are, if you want others to see your work then you need to have a place to direct them. Every writer, author, poet or whatever needs a personal website. They are incredibly cheap now, starting at $2 a domain on yahoo. If you go for free hosting then it's basically free. And if you use things like bravenet then you can have the site easily built without needing to know any html.

My personal site is currently hosted through bravenet for free which means they throw a few ads at the top of the page. My site is currently not as good as it could be but I plan to redo it in time. Something that tends to go hand in hand with your site is business cards. You should have some on hand for passing out. You never know when you will have the opportunity to hand one out. If it has all of your site and contact info, then you are good to go.

Your website should reflect who you are as well as provide some basic information about you as a person and a writer. It's the first step to making your mark on the World Wide Web.

Self promotion is not always easy. But it is necessary when you are an artist of any kind. Getting your name out there is the first step. Keeping it there is a whole other story.

Apart from my website I am now also looking into having some stickers, bookmarks and other promotional materials printed for handing out in association with my coming novel. These types of things always make a great addition to any author's promotional tools. Consider the creative ways you can get your name into someone's hands and have them remember it.

Merry Christmas My Blood Thirsty Friends

It feels like just yesterday that it was Halloween. I can't believe how fast the holiday season crept up on us. But I'm glad. I love it. It will just suck when it's over. It seems to end as fast as it came on.

I must admit that this whole editing thing is new and somewhat confusing. I keep having to ask my editor to clarify certain terms she is using lol. But I'm a newbie so it's all good. It looks like after Christmas I will be working on some edits for the book, reintroducing some characters in a smoother way. Now if only I knew how I was to go about doing it any differently than it already is. Hehe.
But Leigh assures me we will make it perfect and I trust her. It's a learning process that's for sure. But it's one I'm eager to take on.

I must now get started on typing up some new material I have written over the last few nights. I prefer to do my first draft with just pen and paper. It reminds me of writing as a kid when I had no computer and to this day my stories come best that way. Every 10 pages or so I type it up and make basic edits as I go.

Breaking Dawn

So I just finished reading the final book in the Twilight series. *SPOILER ALERT* And I was really impressed with how it ended. I think it was absolutely perfect that Jacob and Bella's daughter were meant for each other. It was a great little twist that I really loved. I remain disappointed in the lack of killing, I mean it is a vampire story. But otherwise, it was beautifully written and left me feeling really good about the whole thing. I'm not sure what Stephenie Meyer is planning to do next but I wouldn't mind seeing more with Jacob and Renesemee.

That was a damn long book. It took me longer than usual considering I had to work in between. But now I am on 2 weeks off of work so my main focus will be my own work. I have a lot to get done in these 2 weeks. Maybe I will also get around to finally reading the latest Anita Blake book. I just got it for my birthday last week but have been too busy to look at it.

Just two more days until Christmas! I am really looking forward to it, mostly because I got some great gifts this year that I couldn't have afforded last year. A year can make such a difference when you work your ass off and have a true goal that you feel strongly about. I don't think that anyone should be doing a job they hate. You really can make a career out of what you love.

Playing With Vampires

So my editor went through Chapter 1 and sent me her changes. She wanted me to decide if I liked her style. And I have to admit that when I saw the changes she had made I was astounded and felt like a moron. It seemed so obvious, like I should have known to make those changes. But when I really think about it, it is hard to do that while you are caught up in the story. I'm already learning so much from my editor and realize that though I create the words that make up the story, she re-arranges them to a polished, perfect finish.

She is planning to have the first draft done in 2 weeks or so. Then I will go through and make approvals and rejections of her changes. After I send it back we go through it once again before sending it off to proofreading. I am so super excited about this. I'm learning a ton and cannot wait to see my book in its final form. But I think I'm even more excited to see my cover art. Soon, I hope.

Today is my last day of freelance writing for 2 weeks. I really need the break. I will be focusing only on my 2nd book during that time and maybe jot some notes for new project ideas floating around in my head. I'm also going to take my daughter to finish up her Christmas shopping and then I can avoid the madness of the next few days.

Playing with vampires and werewolves for the next 2 weeks sounds like as good a vacation as any. Let's hope I remember who I am at the end of it all. ;)

On Cloud 9

I heard from my editor this morning. Leigh seems super nice and I am excited about seeing how she polishes up my manuscript. I know I can trust her to make it better than it already is. She was so nice. The first thing she did was tell me that if I wasn't happy with a certain change that I could say no to it. It's nice to have flexibility. The final draft has to be done within 45 days. So there is a little bit of pressure but I know it will be great. Now I just can't wait to see my book cover!

This blog post isn't going to be all that long. I have a ton of work to do on my 2nd novel which is titled, The Wicked Kiss. I'm more than halfway complete but I have some plot point issues to work out still. So I'm off to sink into Alexa's mind for a while and abandon mine. :)

Real Vampires

It sounds like the stuff stories are made of, but some claim that it's true. How can we be sure? I guess there is only one way to find out. After spending some time myself with those that claim to be real vampires I can tell you this, some of them are absolutely full of shit. And others, may be on to something.

According to real vampire sources, there are a few different types of vampires:
Sanguinarians (blood drinkers), Psi (psychic) and Hybrids (combo of the two).

A vampire is merely someone with a flaw in their energy, someone that must take energy from others. Of course I am no scientist and cannot really break it down further myself but I highly encourage those interested to look into it for themselves.

One thing that seems to stand out the most regarding real vampires is their ability to be in tune with energy on a level that most others are not. It is a whole new awareness. However, when it comes to energy manipulation, that is not just a vampire thing. A vampire needs the energy they manipulate, a Psion does not. A Psion is merely a being that can manipulate and work with energy. My lead character Alexa in my novel Once Bitten is a powerful, natural psion. Everything I have written regarding this is taken from my own sources of information.

Anyone can become a Psion. It's a matter of learning how to feel and work with energy. There is a lot to it including grounding and shielding. Step by step learning is best for beginners. Exercises like psi balls can be especially fun. I have played with them myself. In very dim lighting you can occasionally see a green vapourous colour to the energy. But sight is not as important here. Not physical sight anyway.

A Vampires & Werewolves Only Day

Screw it. I do not feel like doing any of the freelance writing projects that I have scheduled. I still have some flexibility in terms of deadlines so I think today will be 100% fiction only.
I received an email this morning from my publisher stating that the editing process is about to get underway. I was introduced to my editor so that was really exciting. I'm nervous as a mother hen but I know the editing process will just make my baby better. I will be sure to mention anything of interest during this process that I believe others may benefit from.

And I am done Christmas shopping! Hurray! That is a serious accomplishment for someone with no spare time on their hands. All I have to do is take my 10 year old daughter out to do her shopping and that's it. Done! I am usually one of those last minute shoppers, which really sucks. Just don't do it.

Coffee was a much needed item this morning when I woke up. The past couple of mornings have been rather hellish. The bitter cold weather is not helping but it does make curling up with a good book so much better.

Charge It!

There is certainly no secret that I am a massive Dodge Charger lover as well as owner. My beast is a 2007 SXT, brilliant black with flat black racing stripes and quarter panel decals. It is my true love. I have never felt in love with a material item the way I love this car. Since it is a large part of me, I figure making mention of it in my blog is fitting. My lead character in Once Bitten, Alexa O'Brien, drives a sweet red Charger Daytona so it's something that is certainly recurring in my work.

Another Year

I'm 28 today. I keep waiting for the big hurrah. Lol. I guess it sure ain't the same as when you're a kid and you cannot wait for your birthday. But I am embracing it because everyone around me is constantly complaining about getting old. I refuse to be one of those people. Ever. I will be like the Rolling Stones. Old as dirt and still rocking out.

I don't want to do anything today except bury myself in my book. I'm right in the middle of a big scene and I want to finish it by the end of the day. Marv, the fiance, wanted to go see Twilight today and have dinner but I really don't feel up to braving the -30 Celsius weather we have developed in the past 2 days. Can ya blame me?

I also just started reading the 4th book in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, and though I adore the writing in these novels I am constantly let down by how clean it really is lol. I guess maybe if I was younger I wouldn't be expecting some sex and bloodshed even at this point in the series. Haha. Or maybe that just says a little too much about me. It's safe to say my novels are for adults only.

I think I'm almost done Christmas shopping. This is literally a first for me to be done by this point. A couple more things and that's it! Awesome. More time for writing. Which is all I seem to do since Liquid Silver contracted my book. I just want to get the 2nd one finished so I can start the editing and polishing process, which is almost bigger than writing the book itself.

Of course, I am tempted to go hide in my room and just watch the Buffy DVD sets that Marv got me for my birthday.

Werewolves & Whiskey

Werewolves and whiskey do not make the best of companions. Due to my temptation to imbibe on a few drinks last night, I managed to accomplish nothing. I don't think I wrote more than 1 page. My goal is usually 5 - 10 at least. So needless to say, I have a lot of work ahead of me today. It's funny b/c it reminds me of an article I read once about writers being alcoholics. Lol. Not that I am. Ugh, the repercussions of a drink too many is not worth being an alcoholic for. I don't know how some people do it.

It's a bitter -24 degrees Celsius today. That translates to damn cold. I have no inclination to leave the house at all. After dealing with shopping mall hell yesterday, today will be a day to spend engrossed in Alexa's world. I really need to finish the big conflict scene I'm in the midst of.

Unfortunately, that will have to wait until I complete some work that I have to do for the Yellow Pages. I write business profiles for one of their city sites. It's the best paying freelance job I've landed to date. Which is why I always tell people to keep writing and not to settle for low paying jobs. There are better ones out there. But that's a whole different blog post.

It's almost noon and I have yet to change out of pajamas. I think it's going to be one of those days.

Howl

There is a full moon tonight. It is so fitting for me since I just reached a big conflict scene in my book which takes place on the night of the full moon. Looking out at the night sky will be perfectly inspirational. Though I'm not entirely sure how this scene will play out (they tend to write themselves once I get going) but I know it will be good.

After a long day of Christmas shopping, I am so proud to have found the best gift for my mom, ever! I got her a beautiful dragon that is lying down, all curled up like it's about to sleep. It's black with gold and purple trim and it costed me $200 but it was so worth it. She's going to love it!

Of course taking time out for shopping meant that I didn't get done all of the freelance writing work that I needed to do. But I'm not too far behind so it's all good.

I've decided that every Friday I will post the title of a song that has inspired my writing in some way. Or just inspired me. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Shopping, Buffy & Reality

I have been working so hard on the second novel to my paranormal romance series, The Wicked Kiss. I know other writers would be able to relate to getting so absorbed in their fictional worlds that they start to lose sense of reality. I really need to take a break and force myself to go out and do some Christmas shopping. My birthday is three days away...and I keep forgetting about it. Lol.

I also have to do some freelance writing work for some of my regular clients. My work day consists of 8 to 12 hours at least of writing, reading and editing. Most of that is my fiction though which explains why I'm starting to forget who I am.

It reminds me of that Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where Buffy is in an insane asylum and the doctor and her mother are forcing her to choose between reality and her insanity world, which is her life as a slayer. In the end Buffy chose to stay in her slayer world, becoming catatonic to the real world around her.

It was a strange episode that forced viewers to wonder which world was real for Buffy. Maybe she was crazy after all. :)
But I'm starting to relate to that feeling. I love my characters and spending time investing in their world and making it the best I possibly can. But I know that if I don't start being me a little more, I might forget who that is.

I Like My Vampires Scary

Make no mistake, there is plenty of love for the Louis's and Edward's of the world. But sometimes a girl needs a little more ruthlessness from her vampire. On occasion you want, no...need him to take that kill and do it without regret.

A vampire that loathes the kill seems to be more common these days than the one that lives for it. Is this really preferable? Not for me. I want to see my vampire, well, be a vampire! I want him to do what vampires do and that is hunt and kill.

I am as engrossed in Ms. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series as much as the next person. However, I do find myself waiting for Edward to tire of the big game, morality kill and go for the real thing. Would that change who he is? Yes. Do I want him to change? Not really.

Though I enjoy those softer vampires, I still find myself craving those that can't wait to sink fangs and spill blood. This is probably why I have one, Arys Knight, as a leading character in my fictional series starting with the novel Once Bitten. Yet I am always on the lookout for more. Suggestions for great novels with insatiable vampire characters are certainly welcome.
